Application Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 9, 2026

1. Who we are

SmartShelf is an inventory and organization application that helps users catalog, search, and manage household items, boxes, medicine kits, travel items, and other personal belongings.

The data controller/operator for this application is SmartShelf / MapYourThings. For privacy requests, contact us at hello@mapyourthings.com.

2. Information we collect

Account information: email address, display name, authentication provider identifiers, session information, and security event records.

OAuth login information: when you sign in with Google, Yandex, or Apple, we receive the information required to create or access your SmartShelf account, usually your verified email address, provider user ID, and public profile name. We do not receive or store your provider password.

User content: item names, descriptions, tags, categories, item photos, generated recognition results, and related metadata that you add or generate in the application.

Technical information: IP address, browser/device information, request timestamps, logs needed for security, diagnostics, abuse prevention, and service reliability.

3. How we use information

We use information to provide the application, authenticate users, maintain sessions, secure accounts, process inventory photos and recognition results, troubleshoot errors, prevent abuse, improve product reliability, and communicate important account or security notices.

We do not sell personal data.

4. Analytics and Yandex Metrica

SmartShelf uses Yandex Metrica to understand product usage and improve the website. Yandex Metrica may collect technical analytics data such as page views, referrers, browser information, approximate location derived from IP address, clicks, page interactions, and session replay/Webvisor data where enabled.

Yandex Metrica is configured with GDPR-related settings where available. You can restrict analytics collection through browser settings, tracker blockers, cookie controls, or Yandex-provided opt-out tools.

5. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser storage to keep users signed in, remember interface preferences, protect sessions, store recent account hints on the device, and support analytics. Some cookies are necessary for the application to work; analytics cookies help us understand usage.

6. Service providers

We may process data through infrastructure, authentication, analytics, email, and AI/recognition service providers as needed to operate SmartShelf. These providers process data on our behalf or under their own applicable terms, depending on the service.

7. Data retention

We keep account data while your account is active. Inventory content is kept until you delete it or request account deletion, subject to backups, security logs, legal obligations, and technical retention limits. Authentication and security logs are retained for a limited period needed for security and abuse prevention.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, including if GDPR applies, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data. You may also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To make a request, email hello@mapyourthings.com. We may need to verify your identity before processing the request.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect accounts and user content, including session controls, rate limits, hashed passwords for password-based accounts, and authentication audit records. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

SmartShelf is not intended for children under the age required by applicable law to consent to digital services. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children without appropriate consent.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the application, legal requirements, or our processing practices change. The updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
